BREAKING NEWS!

REACT is now a UK registered charity

‘Local people, local action, for a thriving, sustainable Roseland’

REACT is now a registered charity (CIO - Charitable Incorporated Organisation).  We currently have a group of eight trustees who manage the CIO, but we welcome and encourage other supporters as associate members. Our charitable objects relating to promoting sustainable development are also listed below but can be summarised as acting for the public benefit locally to mitigate the effects of climate change but also informing and educating our community about sustainability and the protection of the environment.

Our mission:

To inspire and support the Roseland community to learn and take practical action together to reduce carbon emissions, protect nature and strengthen local energy and food systems.

Our vision:

A local community engaged and inspired to tackle climate change and together champion a greener, sustainable, healthier future for people and the environment.

Roseland Environment Action Community Team, known locally as REACT, was formed in 2019 by a group of residents, led by the late Richard Cochrane, Associate Professor for Renewable Energy at the University of Exeter (Penryn) and a Gerrans parish councillor. It was set up in response to the climate emergency declared by Cornwall Council and some of our Parish Councils.

Since 2019 dozens of cities, towns and parishes across the UK have declared their own climate emergency. REACT is also aware that nature is disappearing at an alarming rate and we live in one of the most nature depleted countries on Earth.

REACT members from Roseland parishes and neighbouring villages are keen to help local communities to be more resilient in the face of climate change and also to protect our natural environment and support nature recovery. We are passionate about playing our part in protecting the environment to help minimise climate change.

REACT supports local Councils, groups and residents to develop and promote sustainable practices and to promote awareness by communication and education. We work with other local organisations and are a member of the Cornwall Climate Action Network (CCAN)

If you live in one of the Roseland parishes or in Tregony and other neighbouring communities and share our concerns please do get in touch, consider helping with any of our projects or come along to our meetings. Everyone is very welcome.

To advance the education of the public in the Roseland area of Cornwall and relevant neighbouring areas on subjects relating to sustainable development and the protection, enhancement and rehabilitation of the environment, including the principles, processes and practices of climate change reduction and mitigation and to promote study and research in such subjects ensuring that the results of such study are disseminated to the public at large.

Sharing of information on issues about climate change and ways of mitigating it  have been beneficial to me. The sense of being part of a team and not isolated is invaluable especially as issues of climate change can feel overwhelming. S

Since joining REACT I have been inspired by the dedication and passion shown by everyone, all working towards a common goal- I'm happy to be part of that. Karen Bowyer
