Community Energy Generation

REACT is looking at many ways to reduce our communities' reliance on fossil fuels. We are also very aware of the impact of increasing energy costs on the cost of living.

REACT was awarded government funding for a feasibility study into the generation of local, community owned sources of zero carbon electricity. The idea was that this electricity would then be sold to Roseland residents at a discounted price via a community energy club.

The feasibility study was completed in 2023. The study showed that technically it would be possible to generate significant energy from solar panels mounted on two commercial rooftops and within one small field, but unfortunately at the time the project was not financially viable, and so the initiative was paused. The study also investigated the possibility of using anaerobic digestion, but this would not have been viable as part of a community generation scheme.

However, there have been several recent developments and REACT is now considering participating in a new study that may now reveal a significant change in the financial viability of a Roseland Community Energy Scheme. Watch this space! .
