Kelp Survey update

The Gerrans Bay Marine Group (a sub-group of REACT), in combination with the Wild Roseland Marine Group, continues with its monthly survey of the health of kelp in the Bay.
Here we see Jane and Sophia at Porthcurnick Beach in August 2025 with Barry's home-made 1msq quadrats. 4 x 1 metre square patches are sampled with the species of kelp, number of plants and the length of fronds being measured in each one. The results, with photos, are submitted to the British Museum of Natural History as part of a citizen-science, nation-wide survey of kelp forests around our shores.
